Packing for a move is nothing that we look forward to. Between organizing your belongings, changing your address, finding a reliable packing and moving company, and all the other time-consuming tasks related to moving, it seems that there is not enough time in the day! During the packing process, our clothes are usually one of the last things we pack. Although clothes do not need as much care as fragile items, like glass kitchenware or antiques, they do require care as some damages can occur. Clothes can rip, tear, get dirty, and experience other wear and tear if they are not packed and handled properly during the moving process.
In addition, packing your clothes properly will not only make the move to your new home easier, but it will make the tedious process of unpacking go much easier if everything is organized and placed properly. If you are getting ready to make the move, we put together a list of packing tips for clothes to help make your residential move a bit easier.

Moving Packing Tips For Clothes
When it comes to packing your clothes for a move, be sure to have a plan in mind. You’ll need to decide which clothes you want to keep out to wear the remaining days before your moving date. Be sure to start the packing process sooner rather than later, as last-minute packing will result in messy and unorganized items that will face the risk of damage during the moving process.Clean out your dresser and closet
When it comes to the packing stage of the moving process, the first step to packing any room or area of a home is removing all the clutter. And, depending on how long you’ve been in your current home, your clothes and wardrobe may need some serious decluttering! Moving is a great time to go through your dresser drawers and closets to find pieces of clothing that you may no longer need or even want. If you have kids, don’t forget to do the same process with their dressers and closets. Moving into a new home is a fresh start, so why bring items that you or your family no longer want or need? Remember, you can always spend a day shopping for new clothes when you go out and explore your new home! When you’re going through your closets and dressers, ask yourself the following to see if the items are worth packing, selling, or donating:- When is the last time I wore this?
- Does it still fit? (Be sure to try it on if you’re not sure!)
- Does it like damaged or worn?
- Is it still in style?
Sort and organize
Once you have gone through your closets, dressers and other clothing clutter — and you now know what items you are packing and bringing along, it is time to sort it. Sorting your clothing will make the packing and unpacking process easier, less stressful, and more efficient. Once you have all your clothes ready, you can sort and organize in whichever way you prefer. For convenience and efficiency, try sorting by:- Occasion (dress, work, casual, etc.)
- Color
- Clothing type (jeans, jackets, t-shirts, etc.)
